Who decides?

A sit down with Shaun Wood - Scriptwriter

The Black Spy Podcast

Season 6, Episode 0006

This week Carlton King sit down with scriptwriter Shaun Wood and asks the question

“Who decides what get seen?”

Due to the all pervasive nature of film and TV in modern society, this is very big question, not least because for many people the vast majority of their knowledge about the world’s past, present and indeed what might even be its future, is transmitted to them via people like Shaun, be that through film, TV and to a lesser extent radio and the theatre. So, this week's sit down really matters!

Carlton explores why and how Shaun got into screen writing.

What his aims were/are.

Asks how difficult it is for those perceived as not fitting the White, middle class, stereotype to obtain a screen writing role in the UK.

Carlton seeks to establish how this lack of diversity has affected the views of everyday British citizens in relation to race, gender, class and other protected characteristics.

Plus in Black history month, Carlton also asks how difficult is it for Black people to become scriptwriters in the UK? Carlton also asks whether this has changed recent years?

And finally, we learn about Shaun’s interesting up-bring which initially pointed him in a completely different creative direction.

Once again this is a cracking episode in which all can learn as well as being entertained.

These and many more questions are debated in this great episode of the Black Spy Podcast, Season 6, Episode 0006, is another must listen event.
