Welcome to another invigorating episode of The BoatCast, your go-to podcast for all things music. Today, we are thrilled to feature Patty PerShayla and Lucas Powell of Rock Boat Soundcheck winners, Patty PerShayla & The Mayhaps.
Patty PerShayla, a former small-town pageant queen, embraced a rock 'n' roll persona that propelled her to success. With her solo EP, "Oracle Bones," she won the 2019 WYCE Jammie Award for Best Rock/Pop Album. Teaming up with guitarist Lucas Powell and drummer Alec Klinefelter, she formed Patty PerShayla & The Mayhaps, delivering blues-infused, riff-driven music. Their debut album, "Cheap Diction," garnered attention as the band toured extensively before relocating to Nashville.
The Mayhaps, despite being a three-piece band, create an electrifying sound with powerful guitar solos and captivating vocals. Patty PerShayla's larger-than-life stage presence adds to the spectacle, wielding a bass guitar nearly the size of her wingspan. While addressing the internet's impact on "Cheap Diction," the band successfully crowdfunded their music video for "Slo Mo" and received accolades at various film festivals. Patty also engages with her audience through Patreon and showcases her talent through Instagram's #1RAD challenge and YouTube covers of heavy metal songs on the ukulele.
In addition to her work with The Mayhaps, Patty joined forces with The Accidentals during their 2021 national tour and performed alongside YYNOT as their lead singer. Her involvement in the music community extends to collaborations with renowned artists, such as Mike Portnoy and Frank Bello, in tribute to Neil Peart. Looking ahead, Patty PerShayla & The Mayhaps are gearing up for an extensive tour and plan to record their next full-length album.
