Leading up to the Canadian Women’s Olympic opening game against New Zealand in the 2024 Paris Olympics, fans and players alike were focused on one thing - defending their gold medal won in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. Unfortunately, a fast-developing investigation into Canada Soccer’s use of a drone to spy on opponents’ closed practices, and the punishment that has come with it, has diverted all attention from the games and even put the validity of the gold they are defending into question.
