Welcome to the CG Chatter Podcast episode #10! In this episode I offer eight tips on how to achieve better work/life balance. These are all things that I personally try and follow, and that I feel can make a big difference in balancing your work time with your time spent doing all the other important things in life. I feel that actively striving for a good balance is critical to avoiding burnout, staying happy/healthy, and keeping those creative batteries charged!

The eight tips I discuss are:

  1. No electronics before sleep. Read a book, relax, get away from your screen.
  2. Don’t check email when you wake up. Email can wait! Start by taking some time for yourself.
  3. Try a computer-free day each week. Not always easy to do, but this goes a long way toward giving your eyes a break and getting some recharge time.
  4. Make good time estimates. Learn how long it takes you to do projects so you can better estimate your time when working with clients and deadlines.
  5. Learn to say “no.” Clients and employers would much rather you say “no” and over-deliver than bite off more than you can chew. Saying “yes” to too many things is bad for everyone.
  6. Work efficiently. Work smart and keep growing your skillset so you can be as efficient as possible while “on the clock”.
  7. Do non-computer things. Get outside! Go to shows! Play board games!
  8. Take good care of yourself. Eat well, exercise, get plenty of sleep, and take breaks while working.
