On paper, social media is the ideal place for gaining creative inspiration, connecting with others and showing off our work. However, as many of us know - it often doesn’t end up that way! We spend far too long looking at other peoples’ content, trying to create as much as possible of our own, chasing trends to go viral and end up burned out, hating social media and totally exhausted of the process of trying to market our businesses.

This is what happened to me a few months ago, and so I ended up taking a social media hiatus. I was feeling this constant pressure to produce content in order to remain visible and grow my following, even though that had never been a huge concern of mine. I realized that I hadn’t narrowed down why I was using Instagram and coming up with a strategy around that. This was really the most important piece of the puzzle for me!

Now that I’m back on Instagram, I’ve outsourced my strategy and it has done wonders for my mental health. We might be creatives, but that doesn’t necessarily mean we’re experts in marketing ourselves and our businesses. So, today’s episode is that permission slip for you to take what you need regarding social media - is it a total break, and a chance to gain inspiration from other places? Is it outsourcing your Instagram to someone who can handle it better than you can? Or do you just need to scale back how much content you’re consuming? Any or all of these are okay! To listen to my thoughts about social media in more detail, jump into today’s episode.

In this episode, I’m diving into:

  • The reason I took a break from social media
  • Discovering why you’re on Instagram and coming up with an actual strategy
  • Why over-consumption of content and trying to keep up with others can lead to burnout
  • How I’ve successfully outsourced my social media strategy
