In 1997, 2000, 2001, 2005 and 2008 David Eastman launched appeals against his conviction of the murder of Australian Federal Police assistant commissioner Colin Stanley Winchester. In 2014, a judicial inquiry ruled that Eastman had suffered a ‘substantial miscarriage of justice’ due to flaws in police evidence.
