Wayne and Jennifer De Gruchy and their three children were your typical Aussie family, living in Shellharbour’s middle-class suburb of Albion Park Rail, approximately 100km east of the NSW capital of Sydney. Every Monday morning Wayne would make the hour and half commute up to Sydney where he worked, and it was not uncommon for him to spend the night at his parents' place if he’d had a long day, and this is where he was on the evening of Tuesday the 12th of March in 1996.
