Chinese FinTech: An overview of the world's most important market, with Yi Huang (Graduate Institute, Geneva), Yassine Regragui (Deloitte/Alibaba) and Anna Hu (Globepay Ltd.)
Why you should watch: When it comes to FinTech (or its near-cousin, TechFin), China is where it's at. But we just don't know enough about what's driving take-up in China, and where China itself is going. Three experts - two Chinese, and one European who spent six years in Hangzhou and Shanghai - discuss the present and the future for Chinese FinTech, both domestically and internationally.
Moderators: Andrew Hilton (Director, CSFI) & Leighton Hughes (FinTech Lead, CSF)
Yi Huang is an Associate Professor and the Pictet Chair in Finance and Development at the Graduate Institute in Geneva. He is also a research affiliate at the CEPR and visiting research fellow at the HK Institute for Monetary Research. He was formerly an economist at the IMF and a research associate at the Dallas Fed.
Yassine Regragui is a specialist on FinTech and China, who spent four years at Alibaba and Alipay in Hangzhou and two years with Y Creations in Shanghai. He splits his time between Deloitte in Paris and the Alibaba Business School, where he is a certified FinTech expert.
Anna Hu is the founder and CEO of Globepay Ltd, here in London, and an 'official partner' of Alipay and WeChatPay. Globepay 'offers a Chinese payment network to UK businesses'.
