In this episode, Brett and Laura talk about shared bank accounts. This is a relatively controversial topic. If you look up whether it is better to have separate or joint bank accounts, you’ll find a lot of conflicting information. However, Brett and Laura have a strong opinion on this. They believe that the only way to be truly united together is to be on the same page with your finances. For that, the best way to ensure that is to have a joint bank account.

Brett and Laura speculate that the reason the divorce rate is so high is due to issues with finances. Having a joint bank account gets rid of a lot of the anxieties and distrust that comes with finances in a marriage. This distrust can easily leak into other parts of your marriage. For example, if one partner has a lot of secret spending that they are lying about, what else could they be lying about? Brett and Laura believe that marriage is the action of uniting as one, not just working together like you are on a team or something like that. One of the most important things to unite on is finances, which having a joint bank account can help with.
