In this episode, Brett and Laura Chotkevys talk about something that they’ve gotten a lot of judgment and hate from. A lot of parents constantly have to lie to their children about Santa Claus. Maintaining this lie just for the sake of keeping up a facade for your kids and eventually having to break the news to them is extremely taxing. That is why Brett and Laura decided to skip this entirely, by saying to their kids that Santa isn’t real!
Brett and Laura bring up two main reasons why they decided not to make their kids believe in Santa. For one, they want their kids to know the true meaning of Christmas, which is the birth of Jesus Christ. The second reason, they don’t want to teach their kids that it is okay to lie. If Brett and Laura showed their kids that it was okay to lie, what kind of lesson is that to their kids?
This episode also touches on other topics that parents won’t typically talk about with their kids. Brett and Laura discuss the importance of talking to your kids about money, puberty, sex, and other topics that other parents may feel a little awkward to discuss. Ultimately, the most important thing in any relationship, including a parent and child relationship, is healthy and honest communication.
