According to the US Department of Health and Human Services, the national average of child abuse and neglect victims in 2015 was just over 9 victims per 1000 children. Additionally, 19% of injured and 12% of physically ill youth have post-traumatic stress disorder. More than half of U.S. families have been affected by some type of disaster (54%). Student behavior and learning are negatively affected by their traumatic experiences. In this episode, Dr. Guadalupe Vanderploeg joins me to share more about this pervasive issue, and what can be done to create a trauma-informed online learning experience.
