Carmine "The Snake" Persico was a notorious and long-reigning boss of the Colombo crime family, rising from Brooklyn's tough streets to lead one of New York's powerful Mafia families for over four decades. Known for his cunning, ruthlessness, and ability to command loyalty, Persico maintained control over the Colombo family, even from prison, through violent enforcement and strategic maneuvering. His tenure was marked by internal conflicts, such as the Third Colombo War, which severely weakened the family, and his eventual imprisonment following the Mafia Commission Trial. Despite his health issues and incarceration, Persico’s influence remained strong until his death in 2019, leaving a complex legacy of both criminal ingenuity and the ultimate decline of the Colombo family.
