Project Python was a bold multi-agency operation led by the DEA in 2020 to dismantle the U.S. operations of the CJNG, one of the most powerful and violent drug cartels in the world, led by Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as El Mencho. The operation resulted in the arrest of over 750 CJNG members, the seizure of thousands of kilograms of drugs, and the confiscation of millions in cash and assets. Despite this success, CJNG quickly retaliated with violent attacks, and El Mencho remains at large. While the operation severely disrupted CJNG's U.S. network, the cartel continues to expand its global influence, especially in Europe, highlighting the ongoing and complex battle law enforcement faces against this resilient criminal empire.
