An F.B.I. Intelligence Assessment leaked in October determined, “The FBI assesses it is very likely Black Identity Extremist (BIE) perceptions of police brutality against African Americans spurred an increase in premeditated, retaliatory lethal violence against law enforcement and will very likely serve as justification for such violence.” During a November 14 House Judiciary Committee hearing about the report, questions by Rep. Karen Bass to U.S. Attorney Jeff Sessions yielded nothing to support the assessment. This lead the Congresswoman to recommend “that the Bureau needs to disown the report and throw it in the trash can” as it makes racist generalizations about police brutality protesters. Rep. Bass joined us in an open discussion about the law enforcement, counterterrorism and intelligence capabilities that could be marshaled against this FBI designation, potentially threatening the civil liberties of all Americans.
