John Rimer, CFM is President at FM360 Facility Management Training and Consulting based in Charlotte, NC where he is also an IFMA & BOC Qualified Instructor. Mike Petrusky asks John about his experiences in the FM world, some of the common themes he sees when presenting, and his take on the technologies impacting the marketplace. John has coined the term “Facilitopia” referring to a workplace where facility professionals set the vision for the built environment, take a holistic approach, and have a strategic view of their FM department. John offers advice to facility managers as they face the rapid changes in the workplace and take advantage of innovative tools to improve their FM program. Mike and John talk about the importance of partnerships through IFMA, the FMCC, as well as industry councils and communities. They discuss branding and the fact that everyone must have an understanding of “selling” to prove their value in our organizations. Mike opens this episode by sharing his first impressions and some song lyrics from the brand new U2 album, “Songs of Experience”, but please don’t judge the music by his attempt at singing it!
