In this episode, Karthik speaks with Sriya Sundaresan - cofounder of the data-led climate organization Transition Zero and one of the speakers at the recent COP26 in Glasgow. They spoke about using data science and financial modeling to fight climate change. Sriya spoke about how one of their initiatives - Climate Tracker uses satellite imagery to track industrial production and carbon emissions and share them with the investment community. They also spoke about the accountability of nations in getting to the Paris agreement goals of bringing down global warming by 1.5 degrees to pre-industrialization levels. Sriya spoke in particular about the urgent need to bring down reliance on coal as an energy source and the criticality that China plays in the same (as it is home to more than half the number of coal plants on the planet).
