While many pro-Palestinian protests across the country called for a ceasefire in Gaza, there were demonstrators who preached hatred and messages of anti-Semitism. This spurred House Republicans to pass a bill adopting a more fleshed-out definition of anti-Semitism from the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance. The bill passed; however, some Democrats and Republicans who voted against the measure say it could infringe upon free speech. Journalist and author Batya Ungar-Sargon talks about why the bill had detractors and what impact it could really have on Americans’ free speech.
