In today’s episode, I have a great conversation with the brilliant Rob Dobson from Northern Comfort about how to get the most out of your website.
Rob has been building, designing and optimising websites for over 20 years and shares some great insights into the behind-the-scenes world of code and development and how to make sure your website is performing as well as possible for you.
With this in mind, we chat about:

  • The dark side of web development and some of the unethical practices that take place.
  • How to measure a website’s performance with tools such as Google Analytics or benchmarking.
  • Why you should invite feedback from people who don’t know your business. Get them to have a look and ask them some key questions such as:
    • What's the product that you're selling?
    • What is it going to do for you?
    • What's the end benefit that you're going to get from buying this product?
  • The importance of making your website as obvious and as clear as possible, you can never over-explain on a website, you can never be too clear.
  • The Curse of Knowledge and how we can make assumptions about what we think people know about our business.

And the interesting parallels that exist between the psychology on a website of explaining how to buy things and present products, and the psychology of magic tricks.
