It’s been roughly a week since Turkey and the Tripoli-based Libyan government signed an agreement on hydrocarbon exploration, a follow up agreement to their illegal 2019 memorandum on their exclusive economic zones that completely disregards geography and international law. Greece is looking to its partners and allies amid concerns that this latest deal could further escalate tensions in the region, and the issue was a central topic of discussion during Foreign Minister Dendias’ recent trip to Egypt. Constantinos Filis, the Director of the Institute of Global Affairs and an associate professor of international relations at the American College of Greece, joins Thanos Davelis to break down whether this latest Turkey-Libya deal could escalate tensions in the region, and to look ahead and assess Greece’s diplomatic options.
