From 2022-2023, knife-crime has risen to levels not seen since before the COVID-19 lockdown, according to a recent research brief from the House of Commons Library.
Prize-winning medtech start-up ACT Medical is fighting the injuries resulting from knife attacks, with a device that applies direct pressure to penetrative wounds, to reduce bleeding. The firm’s device has featured on the BBC’s Crimewatch, BBC Breakfast, and the BBC News website.
In this episode, partner and patent attorney Parminder Lally, and trainee patent attorney Debora Dorn, are joined by ACT Medical’s founder and managing director Joseph Bentley, and head of product Emma Priestley. They discuss ACT Medical’s revolutionary care for penetrative trauma, look at the challenges the business has faced as a start-up, and talk about the role IP has played in its growth.
