ETERNITY

In this episode, host Shaun Griffin steps in for Chris Kuhlmann to present eternity. There are two deaths. The first is for the body and has been the human experience since the Garden of Eden. The second is for those who have rejected salvation. Because humans were created in the image of GOD, humans continue to exist for eternity. That second death, therefore, is NOT the cessation of life, but… eternal punishment… NEVER ENDING punishment.

Where will you be 450 trillion years from now? People who have spoken to you about hell as a subject, did so because they don’t want you to GO there. Ever wonder what Hell is like? Ever thought about what you will be missing for billions of years to come should you spend eternity in Hell?

  • You will have a magnificent place to live that is designed specifically with you in mind, your likes and the things that bring you joy
  • Your pets will be there waiting for you
  • Heaven is more real and more tangible than the physical world we interact with on a daily basis.
  • We are not limited to communicating verbally with our mouths
  • We will know folks without being introduced to them
    • Adam and Eve
    • Noah
    • Moses
    • King David
    • King Saul
    • Elijah
    • Apostle Paul
    • Matthew
    • Mark
    • Luke
    • John

Characteristics of Hell

The Bible describes hell as a place of torment, darkness, fire, and the most important of all - separation from God. It is the destination for unbelievers, sinners, those who follow Satan, those who have rejected Christ.

It is also known by a few other names:

  • Sheol
  • Gehenna
  • Lake of fire
  • Second death
  • Unquenchable fire

Hell is a place of unending torment and suffering, where there is NO peace, and NO hope.

Description

  1. Description – a place of torment with images ofdarkness, gnashing of teeth, fire, and complete separation from God.
  2. Hell looks - like aplace of torment and agony – it is a conscious torment. It’s a place where sinners will be punished for their sins – for rejecting Christ, the price He paid for your soul to escape punishment (Matthew 13:41,50; Revelation 20:11-15; 21:8).
  3. Hell - is aplace of torment intended for Satan and his followers (Matthew 25:41; Revelation 20:10). Think of it as a super-max prison for powerful, immortal spiritual beings. We can deduce that since Hell was created for the devil and his followers (1/3 of the angels) and that the lake of fire burns for eternity, then angels and demons are immortal beings – just NOT created in GOD’s image.

Key passages about Hell

  • Matthew 13:50 “furnace of fire…weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
  • Mark 9:48 “where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.”
  • Revelation 14:10 “he will be tormented with fire and brimstone.”
  • Revelation 14:11 “the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever and they have no rest day and night.”
  • Revelation 20:14-15 But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.

Hell is eternal and irreversible.

Key facts about eternity

  1. Everyone will exist eternally either in heaven or hell (Daniel 12:2,3; Matthew 25:46; John 5:28; Revelation 20:14,15).
  2. Everyone has only this one life in which to determine their destiny (Hebrews 9:27 and it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment,).
  3. An individual’s destination, Heaven or hell, is determined by whether or not they choose to believe (puts their trust) in Christ alone to save them.
  • John 3:16
  • John 3:36 - he who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.

The unending experience

  • Putrid smell of sulfur
  • unbearable heat
  • isolation
  • complete utter loneliness
  • outer darkness
  • fear dash terror
  • hunger
  • thirst
  • torment
  • the absence of the presence of GOD
