If you want to make money from your content, you need to treat it like any other business.
Building your brand means learning how to find your target audience online and figuring out how to reach them.
Who is your target market?
Be specific about who you want to communicate with. Research their interests and their habits. Find out who they’re listening to – who the influencers are in this niche.
Now that you’ve begun your market research, you’ve taken the first step towards learning how to promote a podcast.
Once you know who your target audience is, work towards discovering where they hang out. If you want to know how to find your target audience online, get inside their heads and observe how they think and feel.
Imagine that you’re a member of your target audience – what are you doing right now? What kind of social media websites are you visiting?
Younger people would be on Instagram and Snapchat. Older, corporate-minded types are probably on LinkedIn and Facebook.
Now that you’ve identified your marketing channels, filter out the noise and find your demographic. You don’t want to get too specific at first – cast your net as wide as you can.
Try to get your message out on all the relevant media you can find. For instance, if you’re targeting entrepreneurs in their 30s, get active on LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook. What blogs are they reading? Can you get your writing featured in any publications in the entrepreneurial niche? Get the word about your podcast out there!
Understanding how to promote a podcast needs a lot of work at the beginning. The importance of knowing how to find your target audience online can’t be overstated when you’re first starting out.
Once your audience grows, you’ll start to benefit from word of mouth. Keep up your content quality, and your target audience will look for you.
