For this first Mailbag episode, Dr. Goodall is joined by Hopecaster and podcast executive producer Michelle Khouri as they hear from Hopecasters from around the world. As she has been quarantined in her home in Bournemouth, England, since last year, Jane has been using “Virtual Jane,” including the launch of this podcast, to connect to audiences around the world. Prior to the pandemic, traveling and speaking to people from every country was how Jane inspired and was, in turn, inspired by the power of hope. Now, through Hopecaster audio recording submissions, Jane is refueled by messages and answers questions about how the Hopecast has influenced people from every age and background, after only a few episodes! Jane speaks about how she sees “mistakes” as opportunities to learn more about life. She also hears from 6-year-old Selena Marwaha in Dubai who shares her own tenacity and passion for protecting life on this precious planet, and Dr. Goodall answers a caller’s concern about how to find hope when the world’s problems can feel overwhelming. A very special Hopecaster from Colombia introduces Jane to the philosophy of “heartening,” a phrase shared by an indigenous elder which parallels what Dr. Goodall describes as, “I believe that we can only achieve our true human potential when our head and heart work together.”
