2 Peter 3:14–18

17 You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, take care that you are not carried away with the error of lawless people and lose your own stability. 18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen. 2 Peter 3:17–18

19 And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19

13 I can do all things through him who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13

9 “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” 2 Corinthians 12:9a

I. Guard (v. 17)

17 You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, be on your guard so that you are not carried away by the error of unprincipled men and fall from your own steadfastness, 2 Peter 3:17 (NASB)

16 There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures. 2 Peter 3:16

Savior Sensitive > Seeker Sensitive

17 take care that you are not carried away with the error of lawless people and lose your own stability. 2 Peter 3:17b

1 Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, 2 and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. 1 Corinthians 15:1–2

How do any of us discern twisted Bible teaching?

14 By the Holy Spirit who dwells within us, guard the good deposit entrusted to you. 2 Timothy 1:14

3 remain at Ephesus so that you may charge certain persons not to teach any different doctrine, 1 Timothy 1:3b

II. Grow (v. 18)

18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ 2 Peter 3:18a

10 that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, Philippians 3:10

III. Glorify God (v. 18)

18 To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen. 2 Peter 3:18b

  • Religion makes a person hard. Christ makes a person tender.
  • Religion makes a person proud and opinionated. Christ makes a person humble and teachable.
  • Religion makes a person angry. Christ makes a person loving.
