I apologize.
I’m sorry
These are the words that have been in our language the last week.
After Time Magazine revealed that Justin Trudeau wore blackface not once, not twice, but three times. It caused a reverb across the nation. For a while. This week, new things came up. Trump’s possible, or pending impeachment, Greta Thunberg. Scheer the insurance salesman. So, for some, this is on the back burner.
Our guests today are not the experts the news will think of asking when things like this happen. They are people that we walk pass every day. They live here. They work here. They study here. And I think I would like to hear their perspective.
One is a student in my Radio, Arts and Entertainment class. Her name is Ana Santos. She's 21, a singer and grew up here in Canada. She will talk about being the only black student in her school.
The other is Arafat Abdi. He's a bartender at Boston Pizza. He is also a soccer coach. He's from Yemen. He will talk about some of the experiences he has had. The use of the "N" word around him. The assumptions of the things he does or does not do. As well as what he sees involving other cultures.
Then, we get into the actual issue of Blackface and their perspective.
WARNING: There is strong language used in this.
Arafat is not on social media. But Ana is on Instagram. @anasantoss_. She has some music to check out.
