The group stages are done and we're into the knockout stages of the Rugby League World Cup 2017, but is it unfair Ireland don't make it to the quarter-finals?

Fiji made it three wins from three by beating Italy to kickstart the final group stage games, Australia did the same against Lebanon and Samoa took on a very game Scotland which was played out to an exciting draw, plenty of positives for the Scottish to take from that one. Whilst Papua New Guinea cruised to a comfortable win 64-0 against the United States.

The biggest blunder of the World Cup so far wasn't on the pitch, it was a decision off the pitch. Premier Sports who advertised every game of the competition live on their channel decided two days before New Zealand took on Tonga, to drop that game for a football match. It had the hype of being THE game of the Cup and it lived up to the billing as Tonga beat the Kiwis 22-28. Why did the broadcaster decide to drop it?

Ireland have been one of the teams to keep an eye on they came so close to beating PNG last week which was essentially an eliminator. Despite winning two of their three matches they are heading home after beating Wales 6-34. However have they cause to be upset as Samoa, who have only got one point from their games, have gone through to the quarter-finals due to being in the bigger group?

England started off well in their last group game against France but trailed off in the second half, but job done and they will take on PNG in the quarters. More questions of Wayne Bennett are being raised such as; does he know his starting squad?

All that and much more including the announcement of World Club Challenge coming up is debated on this week's edition of The Last Tackle.
