Lorri Love & Cito Blanko (@citoblanko) Discuss Using Poetry & Expression to Heal, Appreciating Challenges, Recognizing Toxic Coping Mechanisms, and The “Love Revolution” of Our Times. Cito Blanko is a man of many talents, from being a high energy story-teller/spoken-word performer, writer, radio personality, content creator, designer, creative writing workshop host, actor, and even a mentor to the youth, he is someone anyone can admire. His determination to be involved in his community and the communities of others, has landed him hundreds of opportunities, performances out of the tri-state area including North Carolina and Florida, and features on songs and in films. His presence is a fixture in the Poetry and Entertainment community of New York City. Cito Blanko has performed on several well-known stages including the Nuyorican Poets Café, Bowery Poetry Club, and even appeared on the news after opening for The Concourse Comedy Festival in his hometown of The Bronx, NY recently. Cito Blanko stands out amongst other poets because of his ability to make you feel and heal through his words. He is completely raw and honest about his struggles with his own mental health, while also expressing clearly how he changes his perception to find the silver lining and purpose in all of his pain, leading to ultimate glory. He believes that we should appreciate every aspect of life, including our growing pains, our past, and our processes during breakthroughs. Cito Blanko is well educated, constantly reading to expand his knowledge, and making references to history and other great authors. When Cito Blanko speaks he articulates himself in a very unique way that engages the listeners and keeps them engaged. On this episode, Cito Blanko and Lorri Love discuss how Poetry helped them express unresolved traumas, allowing them to release pain, and pick up victory over the past. Cito performs Lorri Love’s favorite poem of his “My Pain, My Gain.” Cito dissects the poem piece by piece and Lorri Love shares her opinion on why it is so relatable to all humans from any walk of life. Cito keeps it really real about recognizing what mistakes we make as humans to be accepted by others or cope with stress. He shares the experience of breaking bad habits and not being recognized by your peers. He also dives into the topic of Love and how we grow up at a very early age causing us to have different views on love and sex based on experiences from our youth.
