Happy New Year! I wanted to start 2024 with a mystery I have always been fascinated with.

In December of 1900, in the Flannan Islands on Eilean Mor, three lighthouse keepers, James Ducat, Thomas Marshall, and Donald MacArthur, vanished in stormy weather and without a trace off the remote northwest coast of Scotland.

Theories range that the men perished due to supernatural forces, inhabiting the Island since pre-Christian times. Or a conflict broke out between the men, and they murdered each other in a rage. And finally, some think they were blown over the side of a cliff in a gale or swept away by a giant wave during a storm.

I was lucky enough to speak with Keith McCloskey, author of "The Lighthouse: The Mystery of the Eilean Mor Lighthouse Keepers." Keith's book is a tremendously gripping narrative rooted in his original historical research. Keith has written many books on aviation history and mysteries and another famous mystery, the Dyatlov Pass. You can check out Keith's books on his website, keithmccloskey.com. You can also find him on Facebook on his author page as Keith McCloskey.
