The first law of holes says, if you find yourself in a hole, stop digging. The second law of holes is to notice that when you stop digging, you're still in a hole.
These rules about holes were first popularized in 1911, in the Washington Post. And of course, there's been lots of variations. We're talking today about how to stop digging and what to do when you're ready to get out.
