It is not easy starting your own financial advice firm, and it is not easy bringing two businesses together. Nathan Waldron and Ryan Nobbs have done both in the space of three years.

Waldron launched Waldron and Co in 2021, to offer advice which covers a range of financial areas including retirement planning, protection, investments and estate planning.

Nobbs launched RN Financial Planning, also in 2021.

In October last year, the pair combined their two businesses to create Evergreen Financial Planning.

“We spoke every day anyway,” says Nobbs. “We’d always bounce ideas off each other and talk through cases to make sure we weren’t going crazy when something seemed a bit odd.

“Someone said to us: ‘Well why haven’t you [brought your businesses together yet?’ And we though: ‘Good question, why haven’t we done it?’”

“It was one of those things that somebody says to you, and at the time you go: ‘Oh yeah’,” says Waldron. “But later that evening I started thinking: ‘Actually, that's a really good idea.’”

The pair puts their success down to the fact they have different interests and skills.

Waldron has a knack for simplifying even the most convoluted financial concepts, making them accessible and relatable to everyone.

On the flip side, Nobbs is a strategic mastermind, who excels at mapping out financial pathways tailored to individual needs.

“It’s not just about bringing two great businesses together,” says Waldron.

“You have to have that synergy, but also be able to fill each other's voids.

“Ryan's really focused on spreadsheets, figures and things like that. I do like numbers as well. Do you see what I mean? But that’s Ryan’s focus.

“My strength is looking at how we can create more business, reach more clients and interact in different ways, marketing etc.

“We have the same work ethic, but we’re doing different things. So when you put that together, it fills everything. That’s the real big secret to this.”

The pair want Evergreen Financial Planning to “revolutionise” how clients experience finance and financial advice.

The business takes a “holistic, client-centric approach” to uplift financial wellbeing across retirement, investment, insurance, and estate planning.

They also want the business to be a place where new advisers can learn the profession.

“We’ve already taken on two advisers, and they are new to advice.,” says Waldron.

“What we want to do for them is create an atmosphere where they can ask, they can learn, they’ve got support from us all of the time, they’ve got support from M&G as well when needed.

“We want to make that journey really easy for them.”
