The film, set in the 1920s, explores India's struggle for freedom against the British Empire and showcases aspects of the country's rich culture. The film's global release has already enhanced India's soft power, and increased the country's visibility on a global scale... though it takes the country's image in a new direction. It shifts the focus of the Indian independence story from the Gandhi and nonviolence emphasis we know in the West, to a more Braveheart-like blood and struggle vibe.
