Javaad Alipoor is the co-director, writer, and one of the performers of Rich Kids: A History of Shopping Malls in Tehran, an incredible multi-media theatre piece that links a constellation of Big Ideas into an incredibly human story. The docudrama starts with the real-life story of a doomed love affair between two of Iran's young rich elite, and then invites the audience to peel back the layers of the story to see the massive historical underpinnings that led to a devastating accident.

Alipoor specializes in political theatre with an emotional core, and in our interview, we dive deep into the current political and cultural moment in a wide-ranging and electric conversation.
