Carmel, IN – August 5, 2024 – On this episode of The Omnibus Show, we welcome Marria Peduto, an Indiana University student and Fulbright Research Scholar, who has extensively studied abroad.
Peduto is an Indianapolis native whose career and education have brought her to every continent and over 20 countries. She recently completed a Fulbright grant in Indonesia researching the impact of coral reef restoration on local livelihoods. This fall, Peduto will begin a Masters of Marine Affairs at the University of Washington to research the environmental and regulatory frameworks affecting seafood trade.
Peduto served as a Youth Ambassador for the United States at Expo 2020 Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. She speaks Mandarin and Indonesian which she learned through U.S. government funded exchange programs. Peduto’s experiences abroad have inspired her passion for citizen diplomacy, and she works to improve access for underserved communities in international exchange.
She holds three degrees from Indiana University in International Studies, East Asian Languages & Cultures, and Sustainable Food & Marine Systems.
Learn more about when she first realized she wanted to pursue a global career and what her first steps were. Hear about what led her to explore food and marine systems and how that aligns with some of the larger challenges facing our world today.
Peduto also shares opportunities that are there for students, especially those from Indiana, to participate in global exchange programs or to travel abroad.
