In this episode, we speak with two licensed clinicians who specialize in maternal mental health for Black women, Tiffany Bishop and Whitney Coble, co-founders of Raising Resilience. We discuss the increasing reports of disparate maternal health outcomes for Black mothers and the resulting mental health challenges during pregnancy, delivery, and post-partum. We explore the unique challenges that Black women face in accessing mental health care and developing strategies to support their mental health. We also talk about cultural factors that affect the mental health of Black women during pregnancy and postpartum and how to ensure that mental health services are culturally sensitive and responsive to the needs of Black women. Finally, we discuss steps that can be taken to address the disparities in maternal health outcomes for Black women and how to improve outcomes for Black mothers and their children.
