Randy McCulloh was like any other small town kid. He was happy, active, and enjoyed spending time with his family at the lake in Mattoon, Illinois. However, this destination that Randy once associated with fun in the sun would unexpectedly become the scene for the most horrifying event of his life on August 21st 1977. Randy, his family, and many others were sucked up into a raging tornado that would kill 5 people and badly indjure many more, including Randy. Among his family however, Randy was one of the luckiest ones, escaping with only shattered arms... What makes Randy's story so captivating is not only his stunningly clear recollection of every second, including being high in the air and seeing family in the cyclone with him, but his incredible perspective on the whole matter.
Traumatic events are certainly life changing, in the most technical sense. When you hear of the things that Randy has seen, you will wonder how he made it through life in one piece, physically, socially, and spiritually. However, if you keep listening, you will learn exactly how.
Expect to learn what it's like to be inside a massive tornado. What it feels, smells, tastes, and sounds like. What the emotional baggage of losing loved ones in such a violent manner is like. How the most tragic events in life can turn out to be the biggest blessings. And what profound faith in God looks like.
