Today’s certified persister is Camille Gooden.

Camille was born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica and later attended the University of the West Indies and its law school. She was a practicing lawyer in Kingston for a decade before moving to Canada where she began practicing law in Ontario.

She became a Health Policy Advisor in the Ministry of Health Promotion and Sport before serving as the Chief of Staff to the Minister of Consumer Services from 2012 to 2014 in the McGuinty Government.

In the Wynne government, Camille served under the Deputy Premier and President of the Treasury Board, as well as the Minister of Housing and Minister Responsible for Poverty Reduction, as the senior policy advisor responsible for the Poverty Reduction Strategy, the Local Poverty Reduction Fund, and the historic Basic Income Pilot.

Camille joins us today to talk about how she got involved in politics, what it takes to tackle poverty through policy work, and how we can encourage more women to get involved in civic life.
