During midlife, individuals often experience a phase of reflection and evaluation, questioning their accomplishments and considering changes. This can be accompanied by feelings of uncertainty and a desire for a sense of meaning and purpose. Developmental psychology explains this as a need to connect to something greater and nurture future generations. Regret of inaction is often more significant than regretting action, as shown by the top regrets of the dying. External influences, such as societal and family expectations, can hinder pursuing personal passions. Acting in alignment with core values is crucial for a fulfilling life, and it requires understanding and reflecting on one's values. Being part of a community and giving back through volunteering can provide purpose and a sense of belonging. Finding purpose is a lifelong journey, and while others' opinions cannot be controlled, setting personal expectations and focusing on what truly matters can bring a greater sense of purpose in life.
