Adam interviews Daron K. Roberts, a graduate of Harvard Law School who decided to forego a traditional career in private practice to become an NFL coach. The interview begins with Daron speaking about his interest in politics and debate at a young age (02:14 - 05:54) and how he was able to become student body president at the University of Texas (05:55 - 11:11). Daron then shares his initial interest in law school and how he was eventually admitted to Harvard Law School (11:12 - 15:54). From there, Daron speaks about his experience at Harvard Law and his first summer jobs while in law school (15:55 - 21:01), why he decided to turn down prestigious job offers in the legal field to pursue his dream of becoming an NFL coach (21:02 - 23:52), and how we can bypass psychological roadblocks when contemplating a similar decision in our own lives (23:53 - 29:00). After this, Daron discusses his first NFL job with the Kansas City Chiefs, including how Chiefs head coach Herm Edwards gave him an opportunity with the team (29:01 - 31:27), how he sold himself to members of the Chiefs organization (31:28 - 37:51), and how he leveraged the power of visualization to fulfil his long-term coaching goals (37:52 - 41:31). The interview concludes with Daron discusses his other NFL coaching jobs (41:32 - 43:35), why he decided to found the Center for Sports Leadership and Innovation at the University of Texas (43:36 - 46:13) and one thing that he'd like people to take from his story (46:14 - 49:00).
