Summary of Episode:

Brad Rothenberg and I go way back - we’re talking about the 90’s people! We had the great fortune of working on the World Cup ‘94 together! Brad is now the EVP of For Soccer Ventures. Following in his father’s footsteps, Allen Rothenberg who was the President of USA Soccer and the World Cup ‘94, Brad also grew to love and have a career in soccer. However, Brad has taken a different approach and has helped For Soccer Ventures create a “different universe of soccer.” Kids and adults in underprivileged communities can now have access to all of the same resources and opportunities that USA Soccer provides, but without the cost. This is what Brad loves. He loves “the part where we get to shed tears,” as he calls it, and is excited that he gets to change lives every day.

Brad’s Reinvention journey was not intended, but after his dear wife passed of cancer he had to become “two parents” to his sons. They picked up and moved to the other side of the world – how they picked the spot is an interesting story! However, overcoming hardship is a powerful thing and with it came a new energy and excitement. These feelings have motivated him to do so much that even COVID-19 couldn’t stop him. It was opportunity to lean in and give back to the community in new and different ways.

Some powerful takeaways from today’s episode:

  • Sometimes your perspective has to change
  • If you can engage with trauma and find a way through it, a new wave of life comes when you figured it out
  • There is an excitement and new energy that comes with Reinventing
  • A lot of people don’t get to recognize what their passions are but if you try, they're there
    • It takes going into the quiet so try to listen to your inner voice
    • You can't calculate change, but it can be exciting if you have the right attitude and outlook
