ProfitDig co-founder Jeff Spencer gives ten tips for bidding construction jobs for inexperienced company owners or estimators. The list includes the following suggestions:
Make sure you have the necessary resources. If you are awarded a project, you are going to have to fund it. Make sure you are not overstepping your boundaries and you are able to perform the work.
Make sure you meet the job qualifications. If the job has licensing or insurance requirements that you cannot meet, then you will be wasting your time.
Know the job. Make you are familiar with the drawings for the job as well as the actual physical jobsite before you do the job bid.
Get a soils report. If you are unsure of soil quality or there is no such report, you need to use qualifications in your bid to make sure you are not held accountable for problems that arise because of problems with soil or rock.
