Today’s episode is near and dear to my heart. Today we are discussing school libraries and the dramatic change they’ve undergone in the last decade. Libraries should be much different than they use to be. Our students have changed, the needs have changed, and our world has changed. To help me with this topic I reached out to my dear friend Vanda Terrell. She is an associate Professor and the Program Director for Library Media and Information Specialist at Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia. Vanda guided me through the program when I went about 3 years ago. Whenever I have any type of library question, she is my go to girl! I was so excited to sit down with her and talk about libraries and how they’ve changed. I also asked her who I should interview that is really doing what a true teacher librarian should do. She gave me Chrystal Burkes name. I had seen her on social media and knew she was in the finals last year for Arkansas Teacher of the Year. I followed her journey and loved seeing videos of her library! I reached out and just had a blast talking with her! I can’t wait for you guys to hear from Vanda and Chrystal! I hope it encourages you, especially if you are in a library media center!
