In this episode of The Puck Authority Podcast, David Ciss and Justin Levine look back on the days of the Markham Thunder after learning last week that Taylor Woods had joined the expansion team based in Toronto. That followed an announcement on Wednesday when the NWHL announced they were launching in Canada. As such, we discuss the performance of the Clarkson cup champion over three seasons, but not only that, but the influence she had from Laura Stacey, also picked in her draft class. Given that only four faces aside from Woods joined the Thunder in Markham, we sit down and discuss how important it is to be surrounded by familiar faces. The same can be said for coaches with the PWHPA and general manager Chelsea Purcell. While reflecting on the league's last season, we single in on the forward's performance while breaking down the line pairing Woods played on. We also talk NCAA while exploring how programs produce pro level players. This comes after a pair of selections were made on Wednesday during the NWHL Draft.

After talking about team chemistry and the importance of relations with goaltenders, David and I break down how significant a veteran presence is for a player of Woods' stature. Speaking of what Taylor's accomplished, having lifted the cup back in 2018, we talk about how such a win plays a role in the drive and mentality of a player’s mindset.

While taking a stroll down memory lane, we debate if a selection to represent Canada speaks volumes of the player and the hard work they put in. As well, we touch on the support that is a team is given by a dedicated fanbase, but aside from that, for the players personally, the foundation and resources they have in place. Whether it be family or friends or those who fill in the seats to watch them play, we talk about whether or not a loud atmosphere contributes to a player’s success. Additionally, we look at this mentally in terms of the impacts this has on their mindset.

After Justin spoke with a pair of players from the Montreal and GTA chapter's of the PA, he sat down with Taylor on Thursday evening to discuss how it is she came down to her decision. Taylor was a joy to speak with and was candid with a straightforward answer.

Woods is a former member of the Markham Thunder of the CWHL. While she's represented Canada at the World Juniors, Taylor is not with Canada's National Women's Team. Today, she is with Toronto NWHL and is an alumna of Cornell University. Previously, Taylor played in the NCAA with the Cornell Big Red.
