They’ve both lived here for almost a year now and are both married to Icelanders so they’ve visited often and have travelled up, down and through Iceland. Blue Lagoon - quintessential Icelandic experience, although very expensive.

Interactive map of pools all over Iceland - public pools, hot pots and a few natural pools
Húsdýragarðurinn Reykjavík "Zoo" - Let's not be hasty about calling this a zoo (hence the quotation marks). Keep your expectations low and you might be pleasantly surprised.
Café Flóran - Cute café in the Reykjavík Botantical Garden across from the "zoo" (see above). Make sure to check opening times as this place is only open seasonally (usually sometime in May to sometime in Oct, but don't be lazy—check the web site)

Vatnshellir lava cave on Snæfellsnes - not crazy expensive, pretty quick, natural lava cave and good guides
Into the Glacier Langjökull ice cave tour near Húsafell - way more expensive than Vatnshellir, but totally different and amazing, manmade ice cave
