We begin with the new Disney Pixar animated feature Soul (Peter Docter, 2020). But you can't talk about afterlife animation without talking about the classic Don Bluth film All Dogs Go To Heaven (1989). What about a journey to the spirit world with Studio Ghibli's Spirited Away (千と千尋の神隠し) (2001), directed by Hayao Miyazaki? Then back to Disney Pixar for Coco (Lee Unkrich, 2017), a tale of a young Mexican boy's trip to the Land of the Dead! Finally, The Book of Life (2014, Jorge R. Gutierrez), a tale of a young Mexican boy's trip to the Land of the Dead! Meanwhile, the gang deals with the fallout of Poppy's disastrous New Years Eve (indoor) fireworks show.
