This week on The Record Process, Victoria Park (better known by her artist name Pictoria Vark) takes us inside her debut album The Parts I Dread, which was released in 2022 via Getter Better Records. She talks us through some of the inspirations behind the record, along with her unique writing style of starting with bass and vocals and how this leaves her open to pushing the envelope of her songs chordally. We also discuss how working with long-time collaborators can create an open writing process, where you can bounce ideas around freely and give honest feedback without fear of offending.

4:40 - The album’s backstory

10:50 - The record’s instrumentation
21:40 - Starting with vocals and bass
24:10 - Not knowing music theory and just running with it
33:00 - The barometer for when something is finished
