A week ago I got a text from a father of a student-athlete that reminded me of Myth #1 About Athletic Scholarships. Myth #1 is one of ten myths listed and answered in the Recruit Me 3.0 Athletic Scholarship System Manual. Go to Recruit-Me.com to get access to the ecruit Me 3.0 System for only $39. Myth #1 listed in the Recruit Me 3.0 is: If my child is good enough, the college coaches will find him or her. The truth, as stated in the Recruit Me 3.0 is: A very small percentage of high school student-athletes receive scholarships because the coach "happened to find them". Only the top-line elite athletes receive enough national media recognition that they are automatically recruited without having to make an effort. The other 99% or so have to take the initiative to contact the schools where they have an interest. Most schools recruiting budgets are limited and coaches rely on you to contact them. There is more on this myth in the Recruit Me 3.0 manual.

The text I got was asking why some local, small colleges and junior colleges hadn't contact his son or the son's coaches about him. The son, the basketball student-athlete, had just been named to an all-conference and all-district team as the high school basketball season had just ended. This episode talks about how college coaches don't have the time or money to prosect the many high school student-athletes in the area, the state or the region. Listen to Epi 401 to hear more about the text and the helpful recruiting information and advice.
