Much of the agriculture sector is slamming a federal government decision to push forward with phasing out live sheep exports.

$107 million will be spent on the transition which is due to be completed by May 2028.

The Commonwealth says the industry hass been in long-term decline and represents less than 1% of West Australia's ag sector.

Rural reporter Sophie Clarke caught up with Australian Livestock Exporters Council chief executive Mark Harvey-Sutton to get his take.
