Jim Wellman started researching megachurches with a high level of skepticism, but after collecting the data, that all changed. In his book, High On God: How Megachurches Won the Heart of America, Jim shares the results of his investigation, and on today’s episode, he gives listeners a snapshot of the positive findings on megachurches. According to Jim, within the couple thousand megachurches in America, the number of scandals are minimal, the community one finds is incredibly beneficial to the human soul, and the good work these large churches do in society is staggering. With host Joey Svendsen, the two also speculate on the correlation between human emotion and "moves" of the Holy Spirit and how emotionally uplifting environments in themselves, are good for the soul.
Kicking off the episode, Jeff Leinberger, Roy Jacques, Tomelex Copeland, and Joey Svendsen discuss what it’s like behind the scenes at Seacoast Church, Pastor Tomelex’s experiences as an African American pastor in a predominantly white church, and some of their fears.
