By the grace of God, President Trump decided to go off the teleprompter during his speech and pull up a chart about immigration. The minutes leading up to this moment were well documented as many eye witnesses are pointing, filming and directing attention to a man "bear crawling" along a roof. One police officer went up the ladder to confront the man on the roof and fled as the shooter pointed his rifle at him. As Trump turns his head to point to an immigration chart, a flustered shooter, just spooked by a policeman takes his shot and misses. Had this sequence gone down any other way, we'd be having a very different discussion. After all, the shooter was in a direct line of sight about 150 yards out. Secret Service detail is far beyond this distance and some news outlets are calling this the "Secret Service's most stunning failure in decades." Whatever the case may be, many questions still need to be answered in the coming days. We are thankful that President Trump is safe and our prayers go out for his protection and continued safety. According to reports, 2 people were injured and 1 man lost his life. Cory Comperatore jumped in front of his family to protect them from bullet fire. Cory Comperatore was a husband, father and former fire chief who lost his life on Saturday. Our prayers go out to his family and those injured in Butler, PA.
