Episode 27 - The role of financial inclusion and inclusive insurance in climate resilience

Guest - Henri Dommel – Director, Inclusive Digital Economies, United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF).

What role does inclusive financial services play in driving climate resilience and adaptation for populations in the Least Developed Countries (LDCs)?

In the least developed countries, individuals often lack access to formal financial services such as suitable loans, insurance and investment products, and can be the worst hit by the impacts of climate change.

The UN Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) is the United Nations' flagship catalytic financing entity for the world’s 46 Least Developed Countries (LDCs). With its unique capital mandate and focus on the LDCs, UNCDF works to invest and catalyse capital to support these countries in achieving the sustainable growth and inclusiveness.

Henri Dommel joined UNCDF in 2007, and is currently the Director of Inclusive Digital Economies. He is responsible for leading the practice's strategy in digital finance and the promotion of inclusive digital economies.

In the episode, Jack and Henri discuss the importance of digital and financial literacy, UNCDF’s work on inclusive insurance in Pacific Small Island Developing States and innovations in the remittances sector.
